Bushwalking
Camping |
The club's main activity is bushwalking, but it has grown to include other activities such as li-loing, cycling and social events. The club's Walks Program (published quarterly) lists day walks on most Saturdays and Sundays, some mid week walks and weekend walks on most weekends. Extended walks of between 4 and 14 days are sometimes listed. For insurance reasons the club no longer offers canyoning and abseiling trips. The main walking areas for the club are the areas around Sydney, including but not limited to the following National Parks: Morton, Wollemi, Budawang, The Royal, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase, Brisbane Waters, Blue Mountains and Kanangra Boyd. Some extended trips are organised in further areas such as The Snowy Mountains National Park. Occasionally extended trips are featured on our program to places like Kakadu, Tasmania, New Zealand and other places. The Sydney Bush Walkers is a club, it is not a commercial organisation. Members volunteer their time to lead walks, welcome new members and carry out all the administrative functions.
Bushwalking is an activity that has associated risks, including but not limited to the risk of accidental injury. Persons new to bushwalking may find club activities quite difficult. While the club does have many walks on formed tracks, many of the club's walks are off track through scrub and difficult terrain. Due to the route of many of the walks it is not possible to leave a walk part way through. |
