Peter Cai

Peter in New Zealand in January 2017

Why do you bush walk?

Getting fit and healthy, and taking photography of nature.

When did you join SBW?

What's your favourite piece of gear in your pack and why?

Walking poles, reducing risk of leg injuries, and also making balance of body movements.

What is the average weight of your overnight pack, without water?

5-7 kg including camera for day walk and 10-12 kg for overnight walk.

What's one piece of advice you can offer new walkers that you wish you knew when you started?

Lightweight pack is always good. Hard exercise could be done by fast climbing with lightweight pack other than slow up with heavy pack. Heavyweight pack could easily get legs and back injuries.

A memorable walk?

Routeburn track of New Zealand, I have been walking twice in last 4 years.

What kind of walks do you like?

The track with large ascends and descends and scenic views.

Do you have a walks philosophy or motto?

Walking is not just walk, but also access to wildness and enjoy beauty of nature.

What's on your walking wish list?

Travel and hike around the world and climb Mount Evenest eventually.

Any other passions/interests?

Photography, cooking, reading and driving.
