John Kennett

John at the trig at Mt Blanche, Marra Marra NP

Why do you bush walk?

Nature, space, a sense that the littlest things in nature are wonderful. I don't need grand scenery, just the feel of wilderness.

When did you join SBW?

2009, after I met some SBWs on the track.

What's your favourite piece of gear in your pack and why?

Gaiters. Anyone who has walked with me knows my aversion to snakes.

What is the average weight of your overnight pack, without water?

A bit heavier than most around 13 -14 kg.

What's one piece of advice you can offer new walkers that you wish you knew when you started?

Don't try to do your Qs on your first walks. Take time to learn, listen to experienced people.

A memorable walk?

Shark Rock Ridge 30 August 2013. Memorable but not my favourite if you know what I mean.

What kind of walks do you like?

Off-track is my speciality in areas immediately north of Sydney like Dharug, Popran, Marra Marra, Kuringai.

Do you have a walks philosophy or motto?

The more you walk, the easier it gets.

What's on your walking wish list?

To really explore the Colo.

Any other passions/interests?

Kayaking with the NSW Sea Kayak Club.  Bicycle touring, yoga.
