Bush Search and Rescue NSW (BSAR)
Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad

The Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad (BWRS) works on the basis that the best people to search for missing bushwalkers are experienced bushwalkers. The following Members of SBW are also Members of BWRS and we thank them for “heeding the call” and giving of their time to engaging in comprehensive training as well as being ready for call outs at any time:

  • Rob Barrie*
  • Sue Bucknell
  • Lesley Clarke
  • Emmanuelle Convert
  • Mark Dabbs*
  • Vivien de Remy de Courcelles
  • Marcia Kaye
  • Gavin Marshall
  • Lisa McCarthy
  • Jim Rivers*
  • Caro Ryan
  • Ian Thorpe
  • Jim Collier
  • Carley Finn
  • Paul Barton
  • Simon Hager

One of the great benefits to membership within the Squad is access to nationally accredited training in a variety of outdoor disciplines. General training includes:

  • search techniques
  • navigation and GPS
  • radio communication
  • bush fitness
  • bushcraft (such as tracking and route finding)

As people progress with the Squad, they are encouraged to build skills through additional training opportunities including:

  • protection & preservation of an incident scene
  • stretcher hauling techniques
  • remote area first aid
  • vertical qualifications: VM, V1, V3
  • river crossing & swift water techniques
  • remote canyon access
